Touching Base

I've been cruising a lot lately since uni's over and I'm enjoying the lack of commitments I am currently experiencing.

In my spare time I've been thinking a lot about another webcomic idea I'd like to pursue. It will be a much more narrative comic set in the whole Superhero genre. But like I said I'm still in the conception process. For example I'm trying to decide how serious it will be (this is entirely seperate from general story humour and banter). I get the impression there have been a number of parodies and piss-takes of the superhero genre so that's not really what I want to do. I have also heard the (nineties?) trend of dark and disillusioned superheros which isn't really my style either.

So I think I'm gonna go for a happy medium. On one hand I want to make it a little bit more realistic, people hit by lasers won't just be shrugging that shit off, and I do actually want some character development and nuance in the plot. But the premise of the story and generally superhero stories themselves are a little bit silly and I know I won't be taking it too seriously.

I've also had discussions about how a story is best written. Some people say that you should plan it out and write to that plan and other people think you should just start writing and let the characters show you what happens. I'm way more the prior but I quite like the sound of the second one. So I might go again with a mix. I'll have a fairly clear idea of where I'm going and then start writing as true to the characters motivations as I can get and see how that all fits in. The interesting spin webcomics have on the narrative path is that if you change your mind about the direction you can't go back and edit things to fit it all in. You just have to deal with it I guess.

The last issue is that I already have a webcomic to work on and I know I'll be too lazy to update them both when uni starts again. So this idea is really getting shelved while the comic I'm doing gets a little love. But the comic I'm doing currently doesn't get a lot of love from anyone but me so maybe I need to do a little more to promote it to keep me interested in it instead of thinking about making other plans.

But seriously, superheros are so much fun. So. Much. Fun.

Also I started writing this post at 1:05 but I was talking and stuff...
