Because it's been seven hours since I had dinner.
Before brekkie though, the latest Robert Jordan book was good. A lot was tied up which was nice considering the last couple of books have tied up nothing and opened up more things. But after hearing my brother say, "He's decided that the next book will be the last," reading the book was like reading a whole lot of plot lines that Jordan wanted to take further but had decided to cull in order to make the last book about Tarmon Gaidon (I would check spelling but I'm weak from lack of sustenance).
The series centres around Rand, Perrin and Mat but there's also a lot about the womens. I never enjoyed the stuff about the womens as much but there wasn't too much this time and it wasn't as boring. Perrin was never as much fun as Rand or Mat and his whole "wah, wah Faile" didn't help. But Rand has steadily declined in interestingness, chapters about him have become all about how he's a rock. Big deal. There's only so many times you can say "Rand deals with his madness, Rand deals with his pain, Rand deals with his responsibility, Rand deals with the taint" I'm over it. Maybe Jordan is too. Maybe that's why there's been less and less Rand as the series progressed. Mat has always been fun and still is, in fact all the characters are more fun in this book. Even Perrin. Seriously.
But there's just so much. Everything feels a little rushed because there's a lot of plot to get through. I honestly liked the series a lot but somewhere near the eight or nine book mark it got far to complicated and I nearly tuned out. Liking the characters was about the only thing that kept me there. That and the fact that I'd invested (time) in nine fucking books I wasn't about to back out now. A hint to all would-be authors: If someone is reading your book they shouldn't be skipping paragraphs. They shouldn't groan when the next chapter is about a certain character ie. Nynaeve/Egwene/Elayne. That is a sign.
I'm ready for Weetbix now.
