Uni was annoying today. I stayed around late for an interview with one of the lecturers only to find out the interview is next week. But it did mean I got to see what some other people were doing and chat to a few people. In all honesty I don't think I spend enough time in the studio and it wouldn't hurt to just be around a little more. I'm having a lot of fun leaving little notes on other peoples works. A part of me likes the idea that they don't know who it's from or what to do with it but on the other hand I want people to write back as well. I crave dialogue.
I don't like one of the works I'm doing at the moment. It's a collage in progress so I guess I shouldn't expect to much but it is a little aimless. Basically that means I don't really know where it's going so I can't easily look at it and see progress towards a goal. I'm trying not to hate it too much but I'm struggling.
Home on the Strange got mentioned on websnark again, and there was an essay which adressed some of Eric's points on Ferret's (the author of Home on the Strange) livejournal. It was an interesting read but I want to dispute some of his assertions. Firstly I don't think "graft" is a good term to use for Milholland's punchlines. It implies that the punchlines aren't relevant to the comic at all, if you read the last couple of comics it's obvious this isn't true. I still understand what he means though in terms of Milholland having a story driven comic with the regular last panel punchline. Ferret and I both agree that Home on the Strange has not been successful as a gag-a-day comic. He says it's because he's been trying to balance between story and humour and consequently neither is coming out the way he wants. Whereas I just thought his comic wasn't funny. I had followed Home on the Strange for a little while and then decided to let it go but I'm interested to see how his embrace of the story will affect his comic.
And now for something completely different: A funny comic.

If you don't think it's funny, it probably won't ever be funny to you. The nature of the punchlines aren't likely to change, and thus I don't want to gear you up for disappointment. But thanks for giving it a try.

Wow, now I just feel like a massive cockhole.
Maybe you could do me a favour and tell me you think my writing isn't funny? We'd both know you were lying but it might make me feel a little better...
