Red vs Blue

So I played some Halo 2 this weekend. I haven't really had much opportunity to play with more than one box and I don't have xbox live so the most people I'd played with was four. When you have four people it's more effort to play the larger levels and I think we all enjoyed the cramped levels more anyway. I haven't played much Halo since Manny left Sydney so it was really good to play again. It was especially good to get a warm up game and smash some unsuspecting fools. Especially THOR (I thought he was supposed to be skilled?)

This was my first eight player game ever and it wasn't too bad. The teams were basically me with three weaker players (Syrak, Drusilla and Caelwyn) vs Two good players (Aspect and THOR) and two weak players (Player 8 and Default). It could be argued that till that night I'd never really experienced the game. But considering I fucked shit up I'd say I've got experience. In short I was the best. And modest? Perhaps not, but then modesty is overrated.

The first level, Coagulation, was pretty lame for my team. The enemy picked up two Ghosts (Aspect and THOR) and had a sniper (player 8) in the hills so anyone out in the open tended to get eviscerated. Which was doubly annoying because my team mates didn't seem to notice. At one point, while I was driving the warthog, Drusilla racked up a few kills from the mounted gun which was probably the funnest part of that game. After that we played a level more suited to my style of play - Lockout. I ended up getting the most kills of anyone and the game was very close but my side still lost. By the third game, Ivory Tower, one of the two better players from the other team succumbed to his hangover and had to go lie down. His control was valiantly taken up by some other guy but they lost anyway. I got more than half of my teams fifty kills. If it sounds like I'm bragging that's because I am. I fucking rule.

I'm more used to playing free for all with three good opponents. So I am teh pwnzor but trying to support team mates and play a team game isn't something I'm really very good at. I'd rather just run around scoring kills. Still, I'd happily play some more. It was nice to play Halo after such a long break and still be good. Maybe next time we'll get more even teams, though with three good players I guess it's hard. Maybe we could get another box and have one good player per team.
